On March 17, 2021 Mary Fragedakis was acclaimed as the Ontario Liberal Party candidate for Toronto-Danforth at a virtual meeting.  More about Mary:

I’ve lived in Toronto all my life, and was raised to believe that community is where we draw our greatest strength.

For the last two years, I’ve worked as the Executive Director of GreekTown on the Danforth BIA, applying my business expertise and passion for community-building to the work of keeping our main street vibrant and thriving.

Before that, i served for eight years as Toronto City Councillor for this ward, until Doug Ford redrew Toronto’s election map and ensured that Toronto residents were represented by fewer powerful voices.

While on City Council, I served on the Boards of the TTC, Toronto Public Library, Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto Zoo, Harbourfront Centre and Sony Centre for the Performing Arts. I fought for changes that would improve people’s lives, take care of our most vulnerable and invest in programs and supports that would support businesses and communities.

This is what I’ve tried to do all my life, breaking down barriers to help others succeed. In 2007, I co-founded the Broadview Community Youth Group to engage young people from all walks of life in activities that would build their self-confidence, their self-worth and a strong sense of community.  As an outreach community volunteer for the Royal Ontario Museum for the past 25 years, I’ve worked to ensure that people of all backgrounds are able to benefit from and engage with our cultural institutions. As part of this work, I also participated in the first pilot project in Toronto to make our public museums and galleries more accessible to new Canadians.

I care deeply about the arts, affordability, cultural representation and creating opportunities locally to support our collective prosperity.

A huge believer in the power of education, I have a Masters degree in Political Science from the University of Toronto and am currently enrolled in the Chang School’s Certificate in Local Economic Development.

I have been a part of the Toronto Danforth community through moments of celebration and of pain, and am dedicated to standing up for its residents in everything I do.
